HANDS joins flood relief work

KARACHI: As heavy monsoon rains, rapid melting of snow and outbursts from glacial lakes have led to flash floods and the flooding of the Indus River in various locations across Pakistan, some organizations are busy in relief work apart from governmental efforts.

HANDS claimed Wednesday that in response to disaster, its trained volunteers in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan provinces are immediately on ground disseminating early warnings and assisting evacuations.

According to press release issued by Nadeem Wagan, General Manger Advocacy, it said HANDS, out of its own stocks, with support of local donors and Philanthropists, established mobile health units, conducted distributions of food and emergency shelter and essential non-food items. “Health And Nutrition Development Society has started rescue and relief operations under directives of Chief Executive HANDS Dr.Shaikh Tanveer Ahmed in flood-hit areas”, the statement further said.
